Baru baru ini Microsoft mengumumkan sebuah fitur aksesibilitas dan peningkatan baru pada Microsoft Edge Dev Tools, dan mereka juga mengatakan bahwa fitur tersebut akan meluncur juga untuk Browser Chomium lainnya.
Dalam sebuah Postingan Blog, Rachel Simone Weil menulis “Developers are recognizing that the web must be accessible and inclusive in order to create great experiences for everyone,”
“Nearly half of computer users in the US also use some form of assistive technology (AT). Users of AT may have physical or cognitive disabilities, temporary injuries, hearing or vision loss, or other conditions that necessitate different experiences on the web. Other users may not have an impairment but benefit from the convenience of features such as keyboard navigation.” Lanjutnya.
Berdasarkan informasi dalam halaman blognya, fitur aksesibilitas baru ini mencakup peningkatan navigasi untuk mereka yang menggunakan standard keyboard atau screen readers seperti NVDA. “Accessibility improvements … extend beyond essential tab and pane navigation,” Rachel Simone Weil menambahkan. “Complex features like breakpoints and performance details are now accessible, too. In some cases, tools were even reimagined or built from scratch. For example, the new Initiator tab makes stack traces accessible by moving them out of a hover element and into their own tab. The stack traces are now in a format that is more compatible with AT.”
Hal ini tentunya merupakan sebuah tindakan positif dari Microsoft mengingat mereka juga kini ikut bergabung dalam Chromium Project. Dan langkah mengganti EdgeHTML dengan Edge Chromium yang dilakukan Microsoft ini tentunya merupakan langkah yang sangat tepat dan berpotensi untuk mengalahkan Google Chrome dalam beberapa tahun kedepan, selain itu terkait dengan Edge Dev Tools, kedepannya Microsoft juga akan menambahkan lebih banyak fitur aksesibilitas untuk Edge Chromium dan Browser Chromium lain, termasuk dukungan High Contrast Mode di Dev Tools, Tooling untuk simulasi High Contrast, dan lainnya.
